Listen, the day your mobile network dies and you find yourself amazed how much that upsets you, that might be the day you realize - your wireless devices, and the networks they are tied to, by now are of utmost importance in your live.

To that point, earlier this week, part of T-Mobile’s US network suffered interruptions for the later part of a single day. The resulting outcry was significant.

For the purpose of full disclosure, I work for T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom. Believe me, no carrier likes to see this sort of thing happen. Ever!

Personally I believe the temporary network shut-down demonstrated really how much most of us have come to value the benefits of always-on communications capabilities.

Over the past months and years, the intrinsic value of mobile communications has increased exponentially. Plainly speaking, your phone is no longer just a phone, but also masks as your PC and TV, your calendar, notebook, and rolodex, all rolled into one. All on the go. And that’s before considering what Android or Apple Apps can do to spice up your mobile experience.

In other words, what used to be a plain vanilla cell phone has matured into a powerful, central command center for all-things digital living.

Would I rather see this exemplified without outages?

Of course!

But who knew, we would ever come to a point where wireless communications is virtually as important to us as food, water, or electricity.
